Meet the People Behind the Mission
ED SLAUGHTER, FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT
Ed was wrongfully incarcerated for 33 years. During that time, he witnessed a troubling pattern: people completing their sentences, being released, and then returning to prison. He heard countless reasons why — and all pointed to a lack of comprehensive support for those reentering society.
After his own release, Ed experienced firsthand how difficult that transition can be. Driven by a deep sense of purpose, he set out to change the system and ensure others wouldn’t face the same struggle alone.
His vision is now the heart of our mission: We’re here to reduce recidivism. Once you get out, we’ll help you stay out. We aim to break the cycle of incarceration by providing the resources and support returning citizens truly need.
JULIE SPONAGEL, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Julie has long been a community advocate. Over the years, she has witnessed first-hand the challenges individuals face when transitioning out of incarceration. It was through this work that she met Ed and was deeply inspired by the vision he shared.
Beyond simply being “the right thing to do,” Julie believes that strong communities are built when everyone has the opportunity to contribute and thrive. She has seen firsthand how a lack of comprehensive support can lead people to repeat harmful cycles — endangering both individuals and society as a whole.
Julie fully embraces Ed’s vision to reduce recidivism. And wants people to know that once you get out, we are committed to helping you stay out. Together, we strive to break the cycle of incarceration by providing the support and resources returning citizens truly need.
